Healing songs are a newer style of soothing harmonized chanting from the Native American Church (or Peyote Church) without the accompaniment of the peyote water-drum or rattle. These songs are meant to facilitate meditation and prayer and provide comfort and peace for the singers and listeners.

Verdell Primeaux (right, Oglalla/Yankton Sioux & Ponca) is from the Oglalla Sioux Reservation. The son of noted peyote singer Francis Primeaux, Sr., Verdell was taught a belief in one God and respect for other faiths and peoples. Verdell began singing when he was five and has composed songs since 1983.

Johnny Mike (left, Dineh) is from Kitsili, Arizona. Johnny has been involved with the Native American Church all his life and has sung with Verdell since 1987.
